Food, Art & Tradition

A Culture Unlike Any Other

Albania's identity has been shaped by Illyrians, Greeks, Romans, Ottomans and a fierce independence that gave rise to a truly unique way of life.

Albanian cuisine
Albanian Cuisine
Fresh, seasonal, and Mediterranean at heart. Grilled meats, slow-cooked lamb, hand-stretched byrek pastry, and dairy so good locals claim it's medicinal.
Albanian folk music
ISO-Polyphony
Albanian polyphonic singing is a UNESCO-recognised intangible heritage. Hearing it performed live in a village tavern is an experience you won't find anywhere else on Earth.
Albanian hospitality
Besa — The Albanian Code
The ancient concept of Besa — a promise of absolute hospitality and protection — defines Albanian culture. Travellers consistently report feeling safer and more welcomed than anywhere else in Europe.

Albania is what Greece was forty years ago — raw, real, beautiful, and completely genuine. Go now, before everyone else discovers it.

Plan Your Trip

Everything You Need to Know

Albania is easier to visit than you might think — and more rewarding than you could imagine.

✈️
Getting There
Tirana International Airport (TIA) is served by Ryanair, Wizz Air, Austrian, Lufthansa, and many more. Flights from major European hubs are frequent and affordable. EU citizens need only a passport or ID card.
🗓️
Best Time to Visit
May–June and September–October for beach + culture (warm but not overwhelming). July–August for peak beach season. December–March for skiing in the Alps and near-empty old towns.
💶
Budget & Currency
Currency is the Albanian Lek (ALL). Meals from €3–15, hotels from €40–120/night. Albania is significantly cheaper than Western Europe — your budget goes roughly twice as far.
🚗
Getting Around
Car rental offers maximum freedom. Furgons (shared minibuses) connect all major towns cheaply. Tirana has an efficient taxi and ride-hailing scene. Roads are improving rapidly.
📱
Connectivity
Local SIM cards are cheap and 4G coverage is excellent in cities and along the coast. Most hotels, cafés, and restaurants offer free WiFi. Albania uses Central European Time (CET/CEST).
🛡️
Safety
Albania ranks among Europe's safest destinations for tourists. The code of Besa means visitors are treated as honoured guests. Standard city-travel precautions apply, but concerns are usually unfounded.
